Home History Working On

January/February 2008 - Started working on the "Stuff" to get it ready to run, then move under it's own power!

Cut down and installed the front coils and started installing the steering column

Also bought a set of Hedman headers. If I remember from my previous rod life, headers never fit out of the box! Need a little frame grind here and there and perhaps a small dimple on a header tube. I ONLY THOUGHT they would fit. Ha! I'm getting good at buying stuff that DON'T FIT!!

It's now the beginning of March, the doors are hung and the cab is painted, cut and buffed. I'll do a small section on cutting and buffing as I spent a lot of time learning how to do this properly, what the correct tools were and the general process. I"ve painted before, but never learned how to do it correctly. No clear coat, only black. Also began installing the door hardware. Managed to destroy one hinge pin mirror pushing the pin through the bottom. (Haven't broken the other one yet!).

April 2008 - Got the glass from a local company (ABC Glass - Gibsonia, PA). provided him the patterns, which he saved. (He does heavy equipment glass which he saves patterns for) He did a great job with nice smooth rounded edges that fit in "like a glove". The door windows weren't as fun as I managed to nick the paint a little getting them in. Pulled a steering column from a 92 silverado which looks like it will fit with very little "manipulation".

I made a steel bracket to support the steering column under the dash to the firewall. (I later had to angle it a little to raise the column about 1.5 inches).

Here's a pic of the column as I was installing it.

Here's the linkage setup from a Ford Taurus from the GMC column to the MII Rack. OOPS! Guess those headers won't fit!

Column mounted to the frame pictured earlier.

And another picture of the column.
