Jan/Feb/March 2009 - Now I want to run the engine ! SO naturally you start with the pulleys. Got a nice chrome 2-groove fan pulley and a 7.6" crank pulley. Oops, crank pulley 1" too wide in diameter to meet fan pulley. (It measured OK, guess my ruler is off a 1/2" or so ?). So put that aside and order up a smaller diameter one (but with 2-groves - forgot the P.S. pump and Alternator drive from the crank.) Also ordered up the alternator brackets (factory placement).

Well the crank pulley fit perfectly, and if I wanted to cut a 3" hole out of the inner fender and fender top, I could go with the factory alternator location. Put those parts back in the box, did some research and decided on the alternator mount from Hot Rod Air. I was afraid that the tunnel ram would be in the way, but that was OK! The radiator hose fitting on the manifold pointed directly into the alternator, so off it went into the box and found one that hade the tube going straight forward. (I guess they made them for hosing challeged among us).

Save up some more and got the P.S. brackets and Saginaw pump. Finally something fit correctly. Well, almost.. seems I now needed a 3-groove crank pulley. The 2nd groove is for show (or AC, whichever comes first.)

So here's some picts of the rough-in of the pulleys and belts...

I set the radiator (original recored with second tubes top and bottom blocked off) Took a while to find the right radiator cap. The radiator shop had them in stock (0, 4 and 10 PSI). The auto parts stores never heard of a radiator cap that big in diameter!

Sure managed to get everything dirty putting it together. (Maybe I should wash my hands more often, but then I wouldn't get my face all dirty). Somewhere in all that I managed to work and paint the inner fenders.

By the way, this ain't about to be no trailer queen.. It's going to drive wherever it's going and take me there in a hurry!
