May/June/July 2008 - Researched headers and found that the only ones that hade a chance of fitting were Sanderson "Block-huggers". Luckily I found a guy selling a set on eBay who had only used them on a display engine and had "dinged" them a little.

Yea! The headers fit and so does the steering linkage. I need to celebrate by stopping the banging of my head off the wall!
I also purchased a hydraulic clutch slave from Novak Conversions, which you can see to the right of the header. It had a new clutch fork, so I had to pull the tranny out again! (I'm getting that down to a science).

One more shot of the headers and steering linkage. (I'm soooo proud of myself!)

The next task was a gas tank. After some research I decided on a Tanks, Inc. UG-3 tank mounted under the truck. I wanted to preserve the factory fill tube, but not sit on the gas tank. This picture showed me trying to figure out location for the fill tube, mid-rear cross-member and drive shaft clearance.

Looking at ground clearance, and then I discovered that the tank would fit reversed under the cab.

This shows clearance against the tranny and cross-member.

This shows the fill tube off the tank and the "L" brackets which were made to mount the tank. I used rebar at a 45 degree angle for added support after the brackets were mounted.

This shows the tank fill tube rough-in inside the cab with the original fill tube. The right picture shows the "L" brackets installed and the tank sitting in the mount.

Painted the tank (fill tube pulled for install). Going with Dakota Digital guages, so I mounted their fuel level sending unit, the fuel line and rollover vent tube.

Had to cut a small hole in the floor to clear the fittings, but it was a good idea if I ever had to get to them without tearing the whole thing apart. The right photo shows the connection to the original filler tube inside the cab.
