We order and install the mainboard and test the desktop for complete hardware functionality, including, but not limited to, software drivers, video, optical, network and hard drive functionality. Desktops with OEM copies of Windows can support installations of alternate or upgraded mainboards (provided the case does not have proprietary connections). If you have only a Restore Disk, or no recovery disks at all, a mainboard change from an exact match will also require the purchase of an actual copy of a Windows operating system.
